Shielding cups

    • Überschrift: What are shielding cups?, Text:

Shielding cups are a special type of shaped part. Traditionally, shielding cups were deep-drawn parts; i.e. they were manufactured in a deep-drawing process. These deep-drawn cups were used for transformers (50 to 400 Hz) with M sheets and SM tape-wound cores.

      TWO TYPE SERIES ARE DEFINED:

      • The RB series (RB = round cup) for M sheets of M 20 to M 55
      • SM tape-wound cores from SM 30 to SM 55 and QB series (QB= cuboid cup) for M sheets from M 20 to M 102 and SM tape-wound cores from SM 30 to SM 102b

Nowadays, shielding cups are customised designs.

Wherever low-frequency magnetic fields/interference (0.1 to 1,000 Hz) needs to be excluded/suppressed. The shielding cups ensure the proper functioning of the devices or system.

They help/enable compact system/device designs that would otherwise not have been possible. The shielding cups can sometimes remove the need to redesign a device. In this respect, shielding cups can save a development or help to prevent a massive deadline delay.

Shielding foils made of VITROVAC®

    • Überschrift: What are shielding foils made from Vitrovac?, Text:

VITROVAC 6025X is a cobalt-iron alloy, with a cobalt content of approx. 75%, produced in a rapid solidification process. In rapid solidification, the liquid melt is sprayed directly onto a rapidly rotating copper wheel. This gives a cooling rate of > 1 million kelvin per second (10E6 K/s), directly resulting in a very thin tape, roughly 23 to 25 µm in thickness. The structure is amorphous, comparable to glass. Due to its low thickness and very high permeability, the amorphous VITROVAC is suited to the smallest applications where low-frequency interference must be eliminated.

    • Überschrift: Which shielding foils made from Vitrovac do we have in our portfolio?, Text:

VITROVAC foils are available with a maximum width of 50 mm. We have a variety of widths in our range. Special widths are available upon request. We offer foils either with or without an adhesive coating. The foils cannot be folded/creased/bent. Therefore, only simple geometric shapes such as discs, rings or rectangular parts are possible. These shapes are generally customer-specific.

    • Überschrift: Advantages of shielding foils made from Vitrovac, Text:

The big advantage is the low space requirement and the low thickness. At 23 to 25 µm, it is usually easy to find space for it. The foil may save you from having to redesign a device. In this respect, VITROVAC 6025X can save a development or prevent a massive deadline delay.

If the space/room and the device are very small, VITROVAC foils are the perfect solution when low-frequency magnetic interference/fields need to be eliminated or drastically reduced.

Shielding foils made of Mumetall ®

    • Überschrift: What are shielding foils made from mu-metal?, Text:

MUMETALL® is a brand name of the manufacturer Vacuumschmelze and belongs to the group of soft magnetic nickel-iron alloys (NiFe). The nickel content is 80% with an induction Bs of 0.8 T. MUMETALL® is used for the shielding of low-frequency magnetic fields, for the production of magnetic cores, in current sensors and current transformers. MUMETALL® foils and sheets have a standard material thickness of 0.05 mm (50 µm) and 0.1 mm (100 µm).

    • Überschrift: Which shielding foils made from mu-metal do we have in our portfolio?, Text:

We offer mu-metal shielding foils in the thicknesses 0.05 mm (50 µm) and 0.1 mm (100 µm). The largest foil width available is 260 mm. Any smaller widths desired – such as 155 mm, 91 mm and 50 mm – can be cut as required by the customer. With an adhesive coating, which we offer as an option, the foils can be applied or fixed very easily.

    • Überschrift: Advantages of shielding foils made from mu-metal, Text:

The big advantage of the thin foils is they are easy to handle. The foil material can be cut into shape with standard scissors. Mu-metal shielding foils are perfect for initial trials, for finding solutions quickly. The version with an adhesive layer allows the foil to be easily applied precisely where it is needed. If a foil thickness is not sufficient to eliminate a fault, a second or even third layer can be applied quickly and easily.

    • Überschrift: Applications of shielding foils made from mu-metal, Text:

The foils are used where a low-frequency magnetic field (in the range of approx. 0.1 Hz to 1,000 Hz) has disturbed the proper functioning of a device or circuit. This is mostly the case in very compact and small designs. Here, the thin foils enables flawless functioning without a costly redesign.

      APPLICATIONS:

      • Low-frequency transducers, current transformers, magnetic current sensors (core material)
      • Shielding of magnetic interference fields in electronic devices (thin sheets)

Shaped parts

  • Sektionen:
    • Überschrift: What are shaped parts?, Text:

"Shaped parts" is an umbrella term for anything that is shaped, formed or moulded. There are shaped parts made of wood, metal, plastic, ceramic etc. We use shaped parts with metallic materials in components. To produce our shaped parts, we use mu-metal: an 80% nickel-iron alloy in thicknesses from 0.35 to 3 mm. The thicknesses 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mm are mostly used. The material Cryoperm is also used: a material optimised for low temperatures, such as liquid nitrogen (approx. 77 K) or liquid helium (approx. 4.2 K).

      , Bild:
    • Überschrift: Which shaped parts do we have in our portfolio?, Text:

Generally speaking, our shaped parts are customised parts. They are produced according to a customer's drawing or specification. Depending on the requirement/specification, we offer these parts in punched, laser-cut or welded designs. We offer simple round stamped parts as well as complex round housings with various openings, from a welded production process.

      , Bild:
    • Überschrift: Applications of shaped parts, Text:

Our shaped parts are used where special requirements have to be met in terms of magnetic shielding behaviour/magnetic insensitivity.

      APPLICATIONS:

      • In the medical field and in research for low-temperature tests or compact and small designs of different electronic devices which would not be possible without these "interference-suppression" shaped parts.
      • The material Cryoperm is used in the low-temperature range and thus mainly in research, e.g. at the Max Planck and Fraunhofer institutes and at universities and colleges.

    • Überschrift: Advantages of shaped parts, Text:

The shaping process is highly variable. Our aim is always to implement the customer's wishes and specifications as closely as possible. Optimised production processes can be used to suit the specific size and material thickness required.
